Therapeutic Technology
Next Steps offers a myriad of equipment options to provide active therapy to achieve goals of reversing muscle atrophy, encouraging neuroplasticity and regaining function.
Onward Arc-Ex: Spinal Cord Stimulation
This revolutionary Spinal Neuro-spinal Stimulator received FDA approval in late 2024 and Next Steps is proud to be the first outpatient clinic in the country to provide this technology to our patients in 2025! The ARC-EX is an external device that uses targeted stimulation of the spinal cord intended to improve upper extremity sensation and strength after spinal cord injury. Our therapist use this device in clinic in conjunction with activity based rehab and we love what we are seeing!
Universal Exercise Cage: "Spider Cage"
A body weight support system that incorporates a system of pulleys, weights and bungee cord attachments that allow therapists to isolate and target specific muscle groups and use low-grade resistance to improve muscle strength, coordination, balance and functional movements
Rt 300 Fes Cycle
The RT 300 FES Cycle is an upper and lower extremity cycle that utilizes electrical stimulation to contract paralyzed muscles to promote neuromuscular recovery, improve cardiovascular endurance, and enhance muscle girth.
Xcite
The Xcite system uses functional electrical stimulation to facilitate over 40 task specific, strengthening, and gross motor training activities. By using sequenced stimulation pattern to perform each functional activity, the patient has the opportunity to practice real life tasks and develop improved strength and coordination.
Esko Indego: Robotic Walking System
- Ekso Indego enables individualized locomotion therapy for patients with lower extremity weakness or paralysis due to a spinal cord injury, MS and stroke
- Ekso Indego’s light-weight, modular and quick adjustment design allows clinicians to offer intensive gait training, custom-tailored to patients across the continuum of care
Bits Balance
- An integrated therapy balance system that can be customized to use for those with balance issues from vertigo, head injury or neurological conditions
- The system has capabilities of objectifying assessments to track progress as well as a therapy tool for daily training
- Next Steps is the only non-hospital based rehabilitation center in the area with the BITS balance device. There is only one other center that has the BITS balance within 20 miles.
Strolll Reality Dtx: Augmented Reality Goggles
- Using see through augmented reality goggles our therapist can alter our patients surroundings to improve walking, balance and reduce risk of falls.
- Therapists and trainers can use guided games and cues for our patients to interact with in order to motivate and uniquely challenge them.
- Next Steps Chicago is proud to be the first outpatient clinic to integrate this technology in the United States.
Visual Eyes 505b: Video Frenzel Goggles
- Enhanced video analysis and programming to assist with diagnosis and treatment of complex vestibular and eye movement coordination disorders
- Allow our clinicians to isolate deficits and therefore provide precise treatment options for patients with a variety of vestibular impairments
