NextSteps offers a unique fusion of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and personal trainers working closely together to provide activity-based locomotor therapy for people with paralysis. We are the first non-profit physical therapy and exercise facility devoted to the rehabilitation and overall wellness of people living with a spinal cord injury (SCI) in the Chicago area. NextSteps is devoted to offering SCI patients an exercise/rehabilitation facility that will aid them in taking their next step towards a more functional, independent, and healthy lifestyle. Not only is NextSteps committed to helping the SCI community regain a higher quality of life but also to support the advancement of scientific research that will aid in the treatment of spinal cord injury.

NextSteps offers a multitude of equipment options to provide active therapy to achieve goals of reversing muscle atrophy, encouraging neuroplasticity and regaining function. NextSteps is equipped with an RT300 FES UE/LE Ergometer with Sage controller, Therastride body weight supported treadmill system, Hocoma Lokomat body weight supported treadmill with robotic assisted walking, Argo’s ReWalk Exoskeleton, Guldmann body weight supported lift for overground assisted gait training, Power Plate whole body vibration with vertical displacement, Galileo whole body vibration with alternating vertical displacement, Giger MD for upside down crawling, Horizon Elliptical Gait Trainer with harness, Versa Climber, Total Gym, tilt tables, second step walkers, massage table, parallel bars, multiple upper body ergometers, general weights and resistive bands for strength training and other tools for regaining function.
NextSteps of O’Connor Foundation offers limited financial aid to qualifying individuals who are experiencing financial hardship that directly impacts their ability to continue their physical therapy.
